I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.- The Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear- Dune: Frank Herbert
I would like to talk about fear, not because it is the mind killer, (though it certainly can be, fear evokes the fight or flight response in a person, and can lead to total paralysis of action), but because fear is the freedom killer. Fear in the leadership of this country is responsible for every piece of legislation that has destroyed individual liberty, from the founding of the nation to the present day.
Thomas Jefferson was quite clear in his opinion of banks and central banks, going so far as to say,"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies", and "The central bank is an institution of the most deadly hostility existiing against the principles and form of our constitution. I am an enemy to all banks discounting bills or notes for anything but coin. If the American people allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered," respectively. (sounds like what's going on now doesn't it?), but his warning of course went unheard.
In 1907 private investors, trading companies, and banks pooled their resources together in a bid to take over controlling interest of stocks in the United Copper Company, and when the buyout failed there was a run on the banks, which left quite a lot of them and one of the trading companies bankrupt, and led to the loss of 50% of the value of the stock market. In response to this mini-collapse, Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act in 1913, and put the very bankers who'd proven they couldn't be trusted with their own money supply, in charge of the money supply for the entire nation- Fear!
Thomas Jefferson was also quite clear about gun control as well telling us such things as, "The Constitutions of most of our states assert that all power is inherent in the people; that... it is their right, and their duty to be at all times armed," as well as "The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." and, "Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one." but of course the federal government passed gun laws in 1927, 1934, 1968, 1993, and 1994 out of fear, telling people it was for their own good.-Fear!
Now we enter a new era in fear, and the press rather than check the government on it's fear, and try to keep it honest, they pass the fear on to the American people in ever increasing doses, and the teaming masses orders the government to pass new laws based on that fear.
On September 11, 2001 our country was viciously attacked by muslim extremists, under the command of Osama Bin Laden. Two commercial jet liners were flown into the Twin Towers in New York City, one was flown into the Pentagon, and one, (on it's way to the Whitehouse), was crash landed in Pennsylvania. What this act of terror did was force law makers to create The Department of Homeland Security, And pass the biggest law against freedom ever imagined in the United States, fear of terrorist attacks made tyranny the law of the land.-Fear!
The Jefferson quotes to the actions of the Federal Government on those two actions are too many to print in one article, as everything he said about government and tyranny fit into them. Jefferson was opposed to a large and lively government, he was opposed to the government banning books, and invading privacy, and everything else that Homeland Security and the Patriot Act brought to the United States. He loved this country dearly, and I can only imagine what his reaction would have been too such laws. No actually I know what his reaction would have been, he would have forced an armed rebellion in this country, and the tree of liberty would have been washed with the blood of patriot and tyrants once again.
This brings us to the present day, and the fear we are seeing around freedom of religion, and of course the government is once again using their fears via the press to try raise our fears enough to let the government take action on them. Representative Peter King has started hearings on Radical Islam, based on his anger, and fear over 911. He would have you become more afraid of Muslim people than you already are, and once that fear reaches a fever pitch, he will try to institute laws that will hinder the first sentence of the First Amendment. My question is once the Freedom of Religion is destroyed for the Islamic people, what is to stop the government from turning its sights on the the Catholics, or Mormons, or any other religion in this country? The freedom of religion was so important to Jefferson and the other founders of this country, that they put it first in the bill of rights, and now Congress is of course going after that.-Fear!
The question you have to ask yourself is how long you are going to be willing to sit idly by and let Congress play on your fears to destroy your liberty? Do you have a line drawn in the sand, and are you willing to actually stand up for your freedom and tell the legislators of this country, "Here and no further"? If people of this country don't take a stand, (and I'm not talking an armed revolution here, so much more can be done by calling congressmen, emailing them, faxing them, peacefully protesting against them and their policies, than most people realize. I'm talking an information revolution, and if they aren't intelligent enough to realize the will of the people, then they need to be voted out of office, even if it means voting against a party that you have sworn some misguided loyalty to, for whatever reason.), I am afraid, that very soon, we will find ourselves in in a police state like Syria and Libya.

They hold us hostage to their fear (by their I mean politicians), and make laws built around it to destroy our liberties and enhance their power. The only way our government has any power is by the fear it instills in the populace.
